Winter 2016 Newsletter – Looking Forward and Reflecting Back

Posted on Feb 1, 2016 in Newsletter, Staff News, Work

From time to time, we like to reflect on the year past and also look to the future. January is the typical time of reflection, and now that February 1 has rolled around, why not share some of what we accomplished in 2015 and what to look forward to in 2016?

Looking Forward:  New Work at Nichols School of Buffalo

Flynn Battaglia is very excited to be working with the Nichols School of Buffalo on an expansion to the Rand Hall dining room, housed within EB Green’s Mitchell Hall constructed in 1924. This project will involve evaluation of the current dining schedule for the students, programming and design of a new servery, overall improvements to the current Rand Hall dining room as well as adding space to improve efficiency by going from the current 5 lunches to three.

The new addition is envisioned as a multi-use space for students and faculty connecting the Flickinger Performing Arts Center (FPAC) and Rand Hall.  The additional space will allow for a larger pre-function space serving events in the FPAC as well as ongoing fundraising events.

Reflecting Back on 2015:  Completed Project at Daemen College

Flynn Battaglia Architects, with ME Engineers and Tredo Engineers, converted the former Amherst YMCA into the new Daemen College Health and Wellness Center.  This building conversion created a 21st Century Health Training and Physical Therapy learning labs for this growing department.  It also provides more recreation space for students, including a basketball court, weight training, and yoga studio.  The exterior was reimaged with metal panels, new windows, and a new glass entry, bringing a vibrancy to Main Street.  Click here to see FBA’s project page for more completed work photos.

2015 Staff News

EE

Emma Eckert received her NYS Architect’s Licensure this year!   After receiving her Bachelor of Science and Master of Architecture degrees from Kent State, Emma completed her necessary intern hours with Flynn Battaglia and successfully passed seven divisions of exams to receive her license.  At the mere age of 25, that’s quite the accomplishment!

KDKim Dimming was welcomed as our new office manager!  Kim has kept us all on our toes and has caught on quickly to the architecture and planning field.  Although she hails from Boston, she’s no Tom Brady fan:  a keeper in FBA’s opinion.
